Home Buying Expectations

Get everything you need, some of the things you want, and hopefully fulfill a couple of wishes.

Will all the boxes in the want and wish category be checked? Nope. There’s no such thing as perfect. Let’s focus on the priorities and we’ll do our best to get you some of those wants and wishes as well!

Don’t worry about buying at the right time, work with professionals to buy right at anytime.

Found a great home? You risk losing it if you try to time the housing market and interest-rate shifts. Those factors usually don’t change fast enough to make a big difference in an individual home’s price.

Be mindful of how many opinions you seek out.

It’s natural to want reassurance for such a big decision, but too many ideas from too many people will make it much harder to make a decision. The priority is the needs, wants, and wishes of the people who will actually be living in the home.

Don’t lose site of the forest for the trees when negotiating.

Negotiation is absolutely a part of the real estate process, but trying to “win” by refusing to budge will likely cost you the home you love. Keep things in perspective – this is a long-term investment, decisions today will look very different down the road. Also, talk with your agent – there is usually more than one way to achieve your goal and it’s our job to help find those possibilities for you!

Plan ahead.

Don’t wait until you’ve found a home to get approved for a mortgage, investigate insurance, or consider a moving schedule. Being prepared will ensure we’re working to find what works for you and having ducks in a row will make your offer more attractive to sellers.

Choose a home first, because you love it; then think about appreciation.

A home is a great investment, but its most important role is as a comfortable, secure place to live.
